CD Review of SoundDoctrine's "Endurance"

This is the debut CD of Cleveland, Ohio-based jazz-funk band 
SOUNDOCTRINE....this stuff reminds me of other relatively young bands like 
Soulive and Robert Walter's 20th Century Congress...talk about some very lively, 
funky jazz stuff.  I only wished that I had checked them out at the Family Unity 
in the Park show a few months ago...I had to attend to personal matters at home.  
The band consists of Jere B (percussion/drums), Jim Couchenour (keyboards), 
Cliff Barnes (keyboards), Paul Douds (guitar), Keith McKelley (saxophone) and 
Phil The Beat (drums).

TRACKS:

ONCEUPONAGROOVE  -  strong funk-jazz stuff with some good piano by either Jim 
Couchenour or Cliff Barnes & hot saxophone soloing by Keith McKelley.  
KICKINSTICK  - faster-paced drumbeats by Jere B and more pronounced funk bass 
rumbling (by Phil The Beat) defines this track, along with moments of lead 
guitar rock goodness by Paul Douds.  Includes blazing guitar solo followed by 
Jere B breaking it down on the drums!
SMALLMOUTHBASS - mellow jazz groove that gets a little heavier towards the end 
with some lead guitar riffing & lot of sax blowing!   REALLYCOOL - fast-tempo 
rhythm with fast percussion playing just made for dancing, baba...keyboard solo  
sound so good.  WHEW, check out the mean, lean nastiest bass funk soloing 
(thanks Phil The Beat)!!!   HEREMENEUTICS  -  almost twice the tempo of 
REALLYCOOL...this track cooks with Jere B's tiring drumbeats and the constant 
fast-paced jazz-style bass playing!  SWINGIN'!!  SOULSONG  -  nice mellow jazz 
tune.  BLUESCROSSING  -  starts up with good funk bass & percussion but 
periodically jumps into a lively feast of scorchin' lead guitar, hot saxophone, 
good drumming and good keyboard riffing!  THELEGENDOFPHILTHEBEAT -  just as 
lively as BLUESCROSSING.  Jere B later begins to tear up the drums!  SACRIFICE, 
CHITEA, FIVEAFTERSIX, and BOYZINTHEWOOD were all some standard jazz grooves with 
a pinch of funk here and there.
