NAPPYHEAD FUNK ARMY

At Leavy's Last Stop Cafe - Huntington, NY (Long Island) (6/21/02)

It's the captain of the funk army himself on keyboards......salute "#9"!!!!

At 11:20pm, the Nappyhead Funk Army started with an introduction of all the members of the superfunk group.......THIS WAS A NEW ADDITION TO THE SET (A GREAT IDEA)!! The music started with the military beat of "Funk Army Mesh" (in spirit of the 9/11 tragedy).....The General's funky bass permeated throughout the entire song, along with an intergalactic funk synthesizer solo by the great Prez!!! "Funk Infection 2YK2" featured an overload of fast-tempo synthesized riffs by the Pearl.....Prez tried to outdo The Pearl.......it didn't work!! "Fly on the Wall" and "Play That Funky Music, White Boy" were great, the latter being a superfunky treat with s'more tight bass riffs!! "Come Together" was a funky rock tune with a longer outro........mostly great vocals by #9, Eric-Jay, Groovalicious, and Red Hot! "Dirty Vamp" featured the lead guitar madness of Andre LaSalle and a super-superfunky breakdown by the Nappyhead Funk Army band!!! (YOUR FEET CAN'T RESIST THE FUNK!!!!) "Tear the Roof Off the Sucka" featured some good drumming by The Technician!

Mr. Bad-Ass-Keyboardist, "The Pearl"!!!

The Pearl wore out the speakers in the club with his insane synthesized riffs on "Every Dog Has Its Day".....Groovalicious provided some funky scratch guitaring!! "It's What I Do, It's What I Am" was an ode to all the super funkateers like me.....it was super-funky with an extra-tight, thumpin' bass intro!! (I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF......MY FEET WERE STUCK ON AUTO-DANCE!!!) "Red Hot Momma" featured the standard guitar jamming. "Sexy MF" and "Jungle Boogie" were good. "Atomic Dog/Pumpin' It Up" included some rapping by Eric-Jay.....he covered the raps from P-Funk's "Some Next Shit" (the Clip Payne track from DOPE DOGS) and "Why Should I Dog U Out?"!! Also, "Atomic Dog" included a bit of "I Got a Thang, You Got a Thang, Everybody's Got a Thang"! The band did a short version of "One Nation Under a Groove", before going into "Knee Deep".....the low point was where the lead vocalists started into the next verse during the "Round and Round" breakdown!

I left the show around 1:40am because (1) I wanted to check out Days of Wild in NYC at the Bitter End, and
(2) I COULDN'T TAKE ALL OF THAT FUNK!!! IT WAS TOO MUCH FUNK FOR ME!! MY DAWGS WERE DEAD TIRED AND BARELY HANGING BY THE BONE!! I THINK I NEED TO INCREASE MY FUNK INSURANCE COVERAGE, 'CUZ FUNK CAN BE DANGEROUS!! NAPPY FUNK OVERLOAD!!NAPPY FUNK OVERLOAD!! NAPPY FUNK OVERLOAD!! NAPPY FUNK OVERLOAD!!
