CD REVIEW ------------------------ ARTIST:Ý MUNKEEZ STRIKIN' MATCHIZ ALBUM:Ý BANANATOMIC MASS This is the first CD release by Munkeez Strikin' Matchiz, a funk band led by Scott Free (musical director for Bo Diddley and the rhythm guitarist/vocalist in Bernie Worrell's group, THE WOO WARRIORS).Ý This is a great funk release in the tradition of the P-Funk and the WOO-Funk. This intoxicating funk also features Bernie Worrell adding some spice on diabolical Hammond B-3 organ. 3)Ý NO TIME:Ý good rhythm guitarisms by Skyntyte with a strong horn appearance. 4)Ý P'NESSE:Ý futuristic funk instrumental with some interesting, humorous rambliní in the background (ìin case of a smash landing, your seat cushion can be used to cover your mouth when you screamî). 5)Ý BOOGONOMETRY/SUMMER LOVE:Ý R&B ballad with funky scratch guitar riffing. P-Funk's Cordell "Boogie" Mosson is featured on the bass guitar. 6)Ý ANKLE DEEP:Ý has references to P-Funk ("This is a toe-jam session" and "Ankle Deep"--as opposed to "Knee Deep").Ý Ballad-style piano chords start off the song, which is nothing but some FUNK with synthesized strings. 7)Ý COLD SHOULDER:Ý good mid-tempo R&B ballad. 8)Ý UNSCATHED:Ý Ballad-style piano chords (different than the beginning of ìAnkle Deepî) start off this funk song which chorus sounds somewhat like The Brides of Funkenstein's "Nappy". The horns sound really good on this one. 9)Ý MUNKEE PHUNGK:Ý Ballad-style piano chords (like ìAnkle Deepî) start off this funk song. 10)Ý DOIN' WHAT WE GOT TO:Ý Good drum intro by Shadow, along with some chanting of "Do it, do it"...then the song delivers a one-two knockout punch of funk.Ý 11)Ý THE METHOD:Ý Subdued dance track that features some good drumming by Shadow.
