CURT CHAMBERS'S FRANKLIN BRIDGE

At the Five Spot - Philly (1/27/06)

Aaron, Curt Chambers and Wayne!

At 11:45pm, Curt Chambers and his group, Franklin Bridge, started their set with a hip-hop beat instrumental which went into the full rock blast of "Rock With You". Lead guitarists Curt and Ray Ray set the Five Spot afire with some fiery guitar wailing (which reminds me of a phrase that I have coined a while ago......."BEWARE OF BLACK GUYS WITH GUITARS!!! ) The song featured the melody of Funkadelic's "Cosmic Slop", a piece of Outkast's "Hey Ya!" and a first verse & chorus of Prince "Let's Go Crazy"!!!

A group called UNITED SOUL came to the stage to perform with Curt. The first song (I think it's called "Reservations") was a love ballad, but better was the funkier, uptempo song that followed. Franklin Bridge went into a song called "What If", featuring the heavy electronic drum pounding of Aaron....the guitar sound was just too powerful on this song. A few ballads were performed, including one that went into straight-up rock during the choruses.....amidst the chorus of "OOH-OO WOAH!" from Curt AND the audience, the drummer Darryl was killing those drums (my eardrums are still throbbin' from that!) and the bass riffs (by Wayne) were very heavy!!!

I believe this was the song where Curt had step into the audience and laid on the floor, playing the guitar like crazy. "Incredible" was just TOO INCREDIBLE, with hard-rock guitarisms and good synthesizer riffs by Blackstar. The Franklin Bridge set was over at 12:40am.
