CLONES OF FUNK

At the Eastport Clipper - Annapolis, MD (4/05/03)

At 10:10pm, the Clones of Funk began their funky attack on the patrons of the Eastport Clipper, hitting 'em in the funky-bone with some "Funkentelechy".......super-funkateer bassist Terre Holland provided his funky basslines, along with the tight horn riffs of saxophonist Jerry Queene and saxophonist Mike!!! The Supreme Funky Ones Wesley Beann and Scrape hyped the crowd with some "Pumpin' It Up" during "Standing on the Verge of Gettin' it On"! "Do That Stuff" sounded so great with the excellent vocals of Wesley and Scrape!!!! "Aqua Boogie" featured Wesley doing some lyrics from Funkadelic's "Be My Beach" (the Bootsy stuff.......maybe it was directed towards me 'cuz I was wearing the star-glasses)!! "Tear the Roof Off the Sucka" was one of those songs that got everyone outta their seats......and the nearly packed club was LIT UP WITH DA FUNK!!! "Red Hot Momma" was full of the powerful guitar madness of the madman himself, Hot Rod, and the heavy drumming of Mark Brown!!! "Undisco Kidd" was followed by the "Theme From the Black Hole", where the horns got off.....they were really "horny"!! The first set was over at 11:40pm.

At 12:00 midnight, the Clones of Funk started their funk assault again with some "Gamin' on Ya"......the white guy (guest musician) on the baritone saxophonist sounded excellent! "Up For the Down Stroke" was another crowd-pleaser.....such a funky song that included "I Can Move You (If You Let Me)"! "Cosmic Slop" featured more of the rock guitar grinding of Hot Rod!!! "Unfunky UFO", "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" and "Mothership Connection" were super-funky, especially "Mothership Connection" because that was where Mike (trumpeteer) really went off on a hellified trumpet solo!! The band threw in pieces of "Everything is On The One", "Take Your Dead Ass Home", "Electric Spanking of War Babies" and "Party Up in Here". I loudly requested "Flashlight" and the party went to another level.......everybody (I MEAN, EVERYBODY) was ON FIRE WITH DA FUNK!!! "Atomic Dog" was actually pretty short because it was time for the band to end the show.......they did a bit of "I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing" and "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow". The second set was over at 1:30am.
