BUDDY MILES

At the Chicago B.L.U.E.S, NYC - 1/19/01

At 9:45pm, legendary drummer Buddy Miles (best known for his work with Jimi Hendrix, in the Band of Gypsys) came out and greeted the crowd at the Chicago B.L.U.E.S. The band started with a jazzy tune with some sonic drum blasts from Buddy! The next song was a funky blues song with some driving organ rhythms and strong bass riffs......Buddy has a funky voice, but his vocals came out too low during this song.

"Miles Away From Home" had a Jimi Hendrix influence, with a hot lead guitar solo, some good saxophone riffs, and a funky organ that dominated the song and permeated throughout the air in the place.

The next song, "Walk on By" (I hope that's the song title), was a R&B tune with some tight drumming.......the song contained lyrics from Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and James Brown's "Licking Stick". That was followed by a slow R&B song where Buddy sat up front and just sang, while another drummer took his place.

The last song was some blues-funk galore with some fierce lead guitar, tight drumming, and hot & sticky organ funk!!!

The first Buddy Miles set ended at 11:05pm.
