BOY WONDER

At Love Park - Philly (6/14/07)

Boy Wonder, himself!!!

At 5:40pm, Boy Wonder started his set with a cover version of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love", an electrifying, guitar-driven rock song that would have sounded great, if the keyboards weren't turned up so loud, almost drowning out the guitar! After the song "El Train", it was on to some good funk-rock stuff with "What's My Name?"...Boy Wonder definitely has some serious good-tar chops (I wondered if he studied under the great Philly guitarist, P.M. Eaton AKA PHUNKYMAN)! "Ain't No Way" was another excellent, funk-rock tune with an infectious melody played on the guitar (Boy Wonder), bass (J.D.) and keyboards. (The band covered a song originally by the rock band The Police...but I don't know what the song is called.) "Hoochie Coochie Man" was da bomb with electrifying blues guitar riffs! "Thief" was another rock-guitar driven tune. Boy Wonder played a few more songs before calling it quits around 7:00pm.

Bassist J.D.!

To be honest, Boy Wonder himself is great on guitar, J.D. is pretty good on bass, but the keyboardist & drummer didn't really leave that much of an impression on me. The drumming was just basic...no real energy to it!
